For housing providers · Pilot partners wanted
Battery software for social housing, tested with pilot partners.
Kettle Energy is developing software that decides when a home battery charges and when it supplies electricity back to the home. We are setting up pilots with housing associations to test how it performs in real homes before any wider rollout is considered.

- None expected, to be confirmed with each partner

HOW?
How a pilot works
Step through the stages below. At each one, who is responsible for what is set out for Kettle, for your teams and for the residents whose homes are involved.
Week 0–2
One conversation, no commitment
Property fit, eligibility, cost and data protection covered in a single session with the teams who would need to approve a pilot.
- Kettle
- Explain the proposal, what we install and the open questions.
- Your teams
- Bring stock profile, constraints and the internal approval route.
- Residents
- Not contacted at this stage.
Week 2–6
Suitability assessed home by home
Space for the unit, the electrical installation, tenure and occupancy. We assess this jointly rather than assuming a whole portfolio qualifies.
- Kettle
- Technical survey criteria and site assessments.
- Your teams
- Asset data, access arrangements and tenancy context.
- Residents
- Not contacted at this stage.
Week 4–8
Written down before anyone knocks on a door
Who owns the equipment, who pays for what, and who is responsible for resident data are agreed in writing, including a data sharing agreement and a data protection impact assessment.
- Kettle
- Draft the data protection paperwork and the commercial terms.
- Your teams
- Legal, data protection and resident-safeguarding sign-off.
- Residents
- Not contacted at this stage.
Week 8–10
Approved wording, no savings claims
Co-branded pages and materials your team signs off. Plain statements that registering is not a contract and does not guarantee eligibility.
- Kettle
- Draft materials, co-branded page and enquiry handling.
- Your teams
- Approve every word before it reaches a household.
- Residents
- Registers voluntarily, with a route to withdraw at any point.
Week 10–14
Measure before anything changes
An agreed baseline period and measurement approach, written down before installation so the result is honest whichever way it goes.
- Kettle
- Baseline methodology and assumptions, stated in writing.
- Your teams
- Agree what will be measured and reported.
- Residents
- Nothing required.
Week 14–20
Fitted, commissioned, explained
Units are installed to a schedule agreed with each household, with maintenance responsibility agreed in advance rather than worked out later.
- Kettle
- Install, commission, monitor and maintain the equipment.
- Your teams
- Access coordination and property assurance.
- Residents
- One appointment, then nothing to remember or operate.
Month 6–12
A plain result, including a disappointing one
Performance is measured against the baseline agreed at the start. If the pilot does not work as hoped, we report that rather than reframing it.
- Kettle
- Write up the analysis, assumptions and limitations.
- Your teams
- A written basis for deciding what to do next.
- Residents
- Told what happened in their own home, in plain English.
Indicative timings. Every cohort confirms its own schedule, and participation is subject to eligibility and to contract.
Benefits
The Kettle Energy goals.
Kettle Energy is developing battery software to help housing associations offer warmer, more affordable homes. The first pilots will test how well the software works for residents and for the teams who manage the properties, and give both sides a clear picture of the results.
01
Help residents manage household energy costs
Give residents clear, everyday information about their energy use so they can spot waste, change habits and keep more control over household costs.
02
Support residents in fuel poverty earlier
Spot unusual or inefficient energy use so landlords can offer support sooner to residents struggling to heat and power their homes affordably.
03
Give housing teams useful data on their stock
Use real energy data from participating homes to inform investment decisions, strengthen funding cases and protect the long-term value of housing stock.
04
Support EPC and decarbonisation planning
Measure energy use and carbon across housing stock to support EPC improvement plans, sustainability targets and reporting to stakeholders.
05
Build resident confidence and engagement
Turn energy data into simple, useful guidance that helps residents understand their homes, take part in energy-saving efforts and see the value of improvements.
